Trained in printmaking at the Royal College of Art, Jonathan Ashworth (aka JAAK) went on to teach traditional analogue print processes across the UK. Specialising in woodcut prints and engravings, their practice embraced the simplicity and directness of the medium. This body of work became a personal challenge, pushing technical ability to the limits. The process demanded immense patience—lines were often carved so slowly it appeared as if they weren’t moving at all. Over time, the extreme intricacy of the work that once felt meditative, began to feel restrictive, prompting the need for a creative reset. That pause continues, but these prints stand as a testament to the intensity and dedication of that period.
